The center in our brain responsible for learning and memory is called the hippocampus (named in Greek for the seahorse because of its shape). This image depicts the beautifully organized structure of the hippocampus. Each dot in this image represents the nucleus of one neuron. To generate this high magnification image, we assembled a collage of many microscope images taken with a 20X objective lens.
