This cell was cultured from a human plexiform neurofibroma, which is a benign but disfiguring tumor seen in NF1 patients. It has been stained to identify neurofilaments (green), which give cells their shape. The blue stain identifies the nucleus of the cell. About 5% of human plexiform neurofibroma tumors progress to malignancy.
