The statoacoustic ganglion is a transient cluster of neurons (nerve cell bodies) that will eventually innervate the inner ear. These ganglia (stained green) were isolated and grown in tissue culture in conditions that encourage the outgrowth of long processes from the neurons. The nuclei are stained blue.
